Advertising

LECOM is the largest medical school in the United States and certainly one of the top choices for students looking to pursue a career in Osteopathic Medicine. There are a handful of reasons to choose LECOM for medical studies but before you decide on applying to LECOM, understanding the school’s acceptance rate is quintessential to weighing your chances of getting admitted to the school. In this article, I will be discussing the LECOM acceptance rate after interview to give you an idea of what it would is like when you apply.

LECOM Acceptance Rate after Interview

LECOM Acceptance Rate after Interview

The LECOM acceptance rate after interview is approximately 26%. LECOM received 24,000 applications, interviewed approximately 4600 applicants, and accepted only 1200 in the last admission year. The school has one of the strictest admission processes and even after the post-interview acceptance, LECOM matriculated only about 700 of the 1200 accepted students. It takes more than just meeting the LECOM admission requirements to get admitted to the school.

Knowing what to do during the interview and how it normally goes will improve your chances of getting admitted into LECOM. Not much is known about the LECOM interview process but we’ve been privileged to access some information about the kind of questions prospective students will be asked during interviews. The next section in this article provides a list of questions applicants get asked at interviews.

LECOM Interview Questions 2023

I have grouped these questions into three to give you an understanding of what to expect when you go before any of the interviewers. There are four categories of questions and this list is not exhaustible but it would definitely provide hints on what your interview would be like.

Personal Life

  1. Tell us about yourself
  2. What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
  3. What leadership roles have you held?
  4. Tell me about a time you did something that had a lasting impact
  5. Tell me about a time you resolved a conflict. And how did it go?
  6. How do you deal with a stressful situation?
  7. What would you describe as success?

Career

  1. Why do you want to study osteopathic medicine?
  2. What does professionalism mean to you?
  3. What traits make one a great physician?
  4. What has been your favorite volunteering opportunity?
  5. Where do you see yourself in ten (10) years?
  6. Why do you want to become a physician?

Medical School

  1. Why did you apply to LECOM?
  2. Medical students have less empathy after med school than when they enter. Do you agree? How can that be prevented?
  3. How do you think medical schools make primary care more appealing?
  4. How do you propose medical schools should educate students to make them better physicians?

Healthcare

  1. How should physicians handle a non-compliant patient?
  2. What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the healthcare industry today?
  3. Should a multicultural approach to medicine be adopted or do you think physicians should use a one-size-fits-all approach?
  4. What can be done to improve the quality of healthcare in the United States?

From the list of questions above, you can tell that the LECOM interview questions are not that difficult. In my opinion, they’ve got one of the easiest interviews among medical schools in the country. However, lack of preparation, zero confidence, shabby dressing, and quite a number of other factors ruin the chances of most applicants after their interviews. Here’s what I suggest you do when before and during the interview at LECOM.

What You Should Do Before and During the LECOM Interview

While I do not guarantee that you will get accepted after doing these things, your chances of passing the LECOM interview would be significantly improved when you do the following:

Study the LECOM Interview questions

You will have an edge when you comprehensively study the possible LECOM interview questions. I have highlighted them in the section above and like I said earlier, do not expect it to be the exact thing you’d hear. The questions are meant to give you a hint about what to expect when you go for your interview. So, study them and generate other possible scenarios and questions from them.

Get your hands on information about the school

Research and study everything you can find about LECOM. You may need to read the school’s blog, news about the school, college guide blogs, and forums to get information about the school. Conduct background checks and consume every helpful information you can find.

Study what healthcare and the medical profession in the US are like

This is something I will expect every applicant to med school will know. For the benefit of the doubt, you will need to know what is the state of healthcare in the country. What new policies have been enacted? What progress has been made? Any updates? Changes? I cannot drum this enough. LECOM is a research school. They prioritize research and if you are going to impress the interviewer, you must show that you do research and know what’s going on in the field you’d want to pursue a career.

Be at the interview venue on time

Everyone knows this rule about interviews but not everyone keeps to it. Here’s why you must be at the venue of an interview on time:

  1. There could be a last-minute change
  2. You’d be avoiding unnecessary rush which could destabilize you
  3. You’d be passing a message to the interviewer about your value for time

The third point concerns interviewers and they are always on the lookout for before who come on time. A profession like medicine requires timeliness and promptness and if you can show that, you might enjoy some preferential treatment in the eyes of the interviewer.

Dress like a professional

There’s an old English saying that goes “Dress the way you want to be addressed.” This is true even today. You cannot be going for an interview in med school and be dressed like a rockstar or an upcoming artist from downtown Chicago. No offense to people in Chicago and upcoming artists. I am not saying you should go for your interview dressed like a doctor with a stethoscope, lab coat, and crocs. Simply dress smart and decent.

Sit and look confident

Medicine is a highly coveted profession and one of the things LECOM interviewers would be looking out for is your confidence. Sitting and slouching or looking down while answering questions shows zero confidence. Sit upright, look at the interview as they ask questions and while you answer, and do not gesture too much.

Think carefully before you answer a question

One of the things that happen to me when I am nervous or very prepared for an interview or exam is that I do not think before I answer. It often lands me in trouble anyway. Resist the urge to want to answer a question quickly. Think it through and be sure you know the answer before saying it

Answer every question with clear points and little ambiguity

Do not attempt to sound high or vast. There’s the temptation to want to impress your interviewer by speaking high-sounding vocabulary. Do not do it. There’s beauty in speaking simple, understandable English language to drive home your point. Here’s one hack for free: if you truly know what you are about to say, you will say it in a way that a 5-year-old will understand.

Appreciate the interviewer for their time before sitting and leaving

As a sign of courtesy, appreciate the interview for their time before your interview session begins and right after it ends. This may not influence your points but it is the right thing to do. And who knows, the interviewer may use that to complement your overall points.

As I said earlier, doing these things is not guaranteed to make you one of the selected applicants after the LECOM interview but it helps to know and do them.

How Long Does it Take to Hear Back from LECOM After Interview?

It takes 24-48 hours to hear back from LECOM after your interview. If you passed the interview and got into the school, it shouldn’t take more than three business days to get a reply from the school.

Does LECOM Interview Everyone?

No. LECOM does not interview everyone that applies to the school. The school interviewed about 4600 students out of the 24,000 that applied last year. Even after the interview barely half of the applicants interviewed were accepted.

Conclusion

If you are wondering what the LECOM acceptance rate after interview is, you definitely have your answer. Your chance of getting into LECOM when you are invited for an interview are high although not guaranteed. Doing well during the interview is as important as everything you’ve done up to this point. Hence, it is important to prepare adequately for the LECOM interview process. It isn’t easy but with the guidelines I have provided in this article, you can scale through with success.
